Fordell Firs

Big Badge Camp

From Monday 16th to Friday 20th of October, I took part in Fordell Firs activity centre’ s Big Badge Camp. It was to commemorate Fordell’s 70th anniversary of being Scotland’s scouting headquarters, as well as a camp site.

We took part in all sorts of activities e.g. ; bush craft, climbing, mechanics, athletics, swimming, the list goes on! All of these activities counted towards badges. Some were staged badges, like swimmer 1,2,3,4, and 5. And some were badges all on their own. I think the hardest one to get outside of the camp would’ve been the “activity centre service” badge, which was achieved by cleaning the toilet block, cutting bushes, and raking leaves. More was gained than badges though. I made lots of new friends, that I’ll keep in touch with. As well as new friends, I gained more teamwork skills, and more confidence. We had to sleep through a hurricane, which made me laugh, as I slept through the whole thing like a log. A total of eight tents where damaged, blown away, or completely wrecked. Luckily, we had spares! We had a great catering team, who kept us well fed through the whole camp. On the last night, we had a huge camp fire in the rain, which was awesome. I learnt lots of new songs that are stuck in my head. During a week I obtained 12 badges, all of which I am proud of. I came home exhausted, but glad that I camped there. The people I met there are truly fantastic, and I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved.

Thank you!
